The Sheikhdom of the Druze Unitarian Community issued the following statement:

2019-01-21

The trials of some people to hit the convention of the National Contract that brings together the Lebanese religious families in the country’s crucible have reached a high dangerous level and is not to be neglected in any form, and it is not accepted to remain silent to any of the acts that exceeds the constitutional and legal framework and hits the pillars of co-existence, and disrupt the constants and nationalities made between the constituents of the country and the privacy of its religious families that was guaranteed by the constitution and legislated by the laws. We are sorry to have a statement in this framework, and our habit and covenant is to ask for a state of law, safeguard the constitution, and work according to the advantages of good governance.
What happened in the Economical Arabian Summit that was held in Beirut regarding overcoming customs and traditions and principles of protocol work by not inviting the religious principle of the Druze Community exclusively, constitutes a serious violation of national values and concepts, and represents a flagrant violation of the Constitution, laws and regulations. It is considered to be a suspicious intervention in the private affairs of the Druze Unitarian Community that the constitution has given it the right to organize and arrange its affairs, where it was mentioned in the legislation issued by the Parliament in 2006 which limited the official representation for the Druze Unitarian Community to the elected religious council and the sheikhdom, as a legitimate sole legal reference.
We ask the concerned people not to take things beyond the pillars of the social and national contract, and we assure that what happened from a serious disorder needs to be corrected firmly, and we take responsibility for the President of the Republic who should respect and safeguard the constitution, apply the laws, protect the co-existence, and respect the privacy of the religious thread that constitutes Lebanon.
