Beirut, on March 26, 2012

The Information Office at the Sheikhdom Akl of the Druze Unitarian Community issued a statement about the spiritual meeting held in Bkerki, stating the following: “After the spiritual meeting that was held in Bkerki today at the occasion of the first memorial for the appointment of the Maronite Patriarch Beshara El Rahi and at the occasion of the Annunciation Day, after the deliberations that took place during the meeting, the Information Office at the Sheikhdom Akl has to clarify the following:
The Sheikhdom Akl asked to limit the meeting to the issuance of a common invocation by the Leaders of the Islamic and Christian religions, calling for harmony and charity, as well as violence and extremism rejection, and emphasizing the virtues of the celestial religions for the sake of the humans and society, but the attendees insisted on issuing a statement that includes some positions although the draft of the statement was not distributed to the spiritual leaders before, which contravenes the customs. Therefore, the Sheikhdom Akl had to add the following expression to the statement: “Invitation to a peaceful political solution in the neighbor country Syria based on the initiative taken by the Arab Countries League”, and this was not taken into account.
As the Sheikhdom Akl would like to mention that the statement of the spiritual summit guarantee important points in all the headlines, except for what was mentioned above, it wishes that the communication continues between the leaders of religions for Lebanon’s sake, rise and prosperity”.
