Beirut, on January 10, 2012

A delegation representing families, authorities and instances of the Druze Unitarians in Beirut visited the House of the Druze Community in Verdun and held a meeting with his Eminence the Sheikh Akl of the Community the Sheikh Naim Hassan as well as the members of the board of directors at the Confessional Council. The delegation included the following Sheikhs: the member of the Confessional Council Sami Abdel Khalek, Wajih Mayassi, Sami El Halabi, Bahaa El Halabi and the Sirs mayors of Beirut: Akram El Oud, Refaat El Zouheiri and the member of the municipal council in Beirut Mr. Mounib Nassereddine, as well as the members of the Confessional Council:  Mr. Marwan El Zouheiri, Mr. Ali El Oud and the former President of the Druze charitable solidarity association in Beirut Dr Adel El Kadi, and the current members of the Druze Charitable Solidarity Association in Beirut at the headquarters of the Social Committee Akram El Zouheiri, the former fund secretary Kamal El Akel and the sirs Adel Najm, Jihad El Zouheiri and Kamal El Halabi.
People who were present discussed “the administrative and financial violations that the current President of the Druze Charitable Solidarity Association in Beirut Toufic El Ghaoui and some of its members are practicing, and which have led so far to a delay in any development in the Wakfs in Beirut. This prevented our dear indigents inside and outside Beirut from benefiting of this development”. His Eminence the Sheikh Akl and the members of the Board of Directors at the Confessional Council assured to the delegation that “the principles they have often emphasized at many occasions and that the President of the Wakfs Committee at the Confessional Council the Judge Abbas El Halabi has read after the meeting are as follows:
-  The development of the Druze Wakfs constitutes an obligation and a commitment held by the Confessional Council, in particular the Druze Wakfs in Beirut, while preserving the cemeteries and current utilities, as well as the hall rooms, religious sanctuaries and the building of the House of the Druze Community.
- This commitment is the fruit of a firm conviction at the Druze Sheikhdom, the Confessional Council and the political references. The biased rumors about selling the Druze Wakfs are a pure and false calumny. In addition to this conviction, the law stipulating the organization of the Druze Wakfs does not allow anyone to sell even a little space of the Druze Wakfs properties. The Council is committed to support our parents in Beirut and help them achieve all their projects related to development, education and health. In fact, they constitute an integral part of the Unitarian family.
The Mayor Akram El Oud declared in the name of the delegation that “the inhabitants of Beirut are innocent from all the practices and attitudes made by some members of the solidarity association”, mentioning that “the delegation was reassured of the sincere intention and the continuous effort of the Sheikhdom Akl and the Confessional Council in order to settle the affairs of the Community and ensure the interest of all its sons without discrimination. The delegation also promised to strive to overcome the obstacles that some are provoking in front of this sincere and charitable action”.
