Speech of his Eminence the Sheikh Akl of the Druze Unitarian Community the Sheikh Naim Hassan at the occasion of the Holy Adha 2014

2014-10-03

In the Name of God the Most Gracious the Most Merciful

Praise be to God Lord of Mankind, Prayers and Peace be upon the Master of Messengers, His Family and His Companions to the day of Recompense

Penitence is the noblest honor that God’s servants could enjoy in their attempts to satisfy God, for it is the purpose that gets the believer closer to his Creator at these holy days where the invitation to visit the old House of God is fulfilled by obeying to His orders, surrendering to His judgment and being determined to commit himself to work and abstain from the forbidden. The implementation of the principles of the Islam’s main pillar require the awareness of the noble significances and spiritual meanings for which the pilgrimage journey has been a scene that summarizes the target of a believer’s life in this mortal life, and which consists in the obedience to the truth and the attempts to ask for it, abide by its obligations, stress on its requirements and slay all the other vices as an offering to His Almighty, a sacrifice with the temporal egoism and an expiation for the weakness and vices he had committed in this concern. This goes along with the words of His Almighty: {Yes, whoever fulfils his pledge and fears Allah much; verily, then Allah loves those who are Al-Muttaqun} (Al-Imran 76)

We strongly feel the need today to stand before the significances of the Holy Adha, feeling the presence of God His Almighty through His shining Verses for which we should make a mirror in our souls to observe ourselves and discover to what extent we can see the lights of the guidance and mercy book that God His Almighty made for us for a straight path, as His Almighty said: {We sent down to you a manifest light} (An-Nisa 174). The biggest calamity that might hit the nation hard is the going back to the obscure ignorance that is meant to threaten its powers, reduce its ranks and weaken its heart, and thus, it will fall down in the abysses of dissensions, hatred and conflicts and it does not rely on its abundance, but on the righteousness of its faith and loyalty to God’s righteous era. The Messenger of God – Peace of Allah be upon him – said: “You are of a great number today, but you are similar to the rubbish of the flow. Let God eradicate the fear from your enemies’ hearts and push your hearts to the weakness”. Isn’t our reality today similar to the scene of this rubbish that comes over the flow and charges it with foam and curiosity that are hopeless? However, we strongly believe that the righteous faith does not deprive us from hope and that the feeling of the guidance grace in the nation will rise out of its repression and will return its reverent shining face.

Dear Unitarians,

We have to keep in mind that standing between the hands of the all Seer and all Hearer is the one Who does not look at our images and good tidings, but looks at our hearts. In fact, the heart is what the human keeps thinking of. Therefore, if it was filled with goodness, charity and sincerity, it satisfies His Almighty and if it was filled –God forbid – with the hatred, conflicts and craving to the desires, material life and egoism, it infuriates God His Almighty, He Who is the all Seer the all Hearer.

This goodness should be manifested in the acts, attempts and initiatives that are favorable to people, call them for the union of the ranks and for the good word and stimulate them to achieve the public interest and get out from the tight circles where the sectarian interests reside and the oppressing speech that is far away from sincerity and spreads the seeds of separation. We consider ourselves too exalted to enter into that opposes to our conscience, and thus, we call all to rise to the level of the challenges and risks, so that we would be united in one rank in face of any threat to our nation and country.

We have always expressed our convictions anchored in the moderation behavior and in our minds the great verse of the Koran: {So stand you firm and straight as you are commanded} (Hud 112). We cannot understand the righteousness in the religious context unless on the basis of qualities such as mercy, guidance, dream, modesty and courage in face of the soul’s instincts ordering badness and the humanitarian commitment to the holy divine order to incite for the goodness and restraint from all the prohibited. Any prohibited will be more severe to people than killing the human soul by oppression and aspersion.

We have specified in our spiritual meetings, in particular during the last one, the principles and perspectives that we deem convenient to the reform of this country. We reiterate and emphasize the importance of national union which we permanently ask God His Almighty to make as the main pillar for the preservation of our dear Lebanon, especially as regards the sovereignty of the State, the abidance by the constitutional principles, the non-dragging to the parties’ politics without taking into account the higher national interests, the adherence to the will of coexistence and to the noble humanitarian example represented by the positive atmosphere of the Islamo-Christian relations as a Lebanese humanitarian example that should be approached from the standpoint of what the region’s history preserves of an ancient civilized depth.

Dear Lebanese,

We should start from our country stuck in the dilemma of alternation in flabbiness and suspension to restore the normal constitutional life in its legislative, executive and even administrative pathway. In a country that pretends democracy and that is unable to elect a President and to perform the main process that gives the people the right to elect its representatives and knowing that this is reflected on the performance of the executive authority, the country is threatened, especially by the huge dangers that threaten its entity and the horrible threats that might offend its security principles in general.

We are all proud of our army’s victories and the necessity of supporting it, but we should be aware of the true reality that there is no real support or backing for the national army nor any appreciation for its heavy functions unless by the stability of the governing institutions and the organization of their work in order to fortify the interior field, convey a message of trust to the supporting countries and follow up on the recent updates about the security disturbances in the only reasonable way that should be adopted. Otherwise, we will find out to what extent we were inattentive to the management of our country’s affairs as the ones who deserve it.

Going back to this honorable occasion, if one of the significances of this holy Eid was the sacrifice for the good, we call the Government’s leaders to offer sacrifices in order to protect the sons of this nation, in particular the hostages soldiers kept at the armed groups, since those are the sons of the military institution and they even represent the whole country.

On this special Eid, we call all the political leaders to make sacrifice with some interests from here and there, respond to the higher national interest and immediately elect a President of the Republic without any further delay.

We call all the spiritual leaders who always represent the agreement and cooperation between them, Praise be to Allah for transforming the statements of summits and meetings to practical steps that promote national union and coexistence and raise the religious speech up to what is required by the dangerous incidents taking place in the region, out of which the most dangerous are the acts committed by groups that are veiled with the religious character.

We condemn and prohibit all the acts of murder, kidnapping and offence of others. We support the army and security forces. All the Lebanese should be aware that the country is their first and last irreplaceable refuge in the protection of all its citizens.

We call our Unitarian brothers and sons to admit that we have accepted coexistence as a clause of the collective education constitution, and the national positions that his Excellence Walid Bek Jumblatt is taking at this serious period will be kept in the national wide pages of history. We are pretty sure that you are aware of the risk carried by this period, and that you are sticking to your Arabism and maintaining your Islamic belonging, and that you will never be affected by any conspiracies.

We hope and ask our Creator His Almighty on the Holy Adha to inspire us all as Lebanese, Arabs and Muslims for the good of our country and the Arab region, as well as our Islamic nation, and to grant us the grace of the Eid and the justice and decent life for our nation’s people, hoping Palestine would be back to us liberated and independent, that the other Arab countries enjoy security and democracy and that the Lebanese overcome this calamity.

We ask God to inspire us with His satisfaction and luck in His obedience through which the genuine fruits of peace are created. We supplicate to Him to exempt us from any vice and asking His Messenger – Peace and prayers be upon Him – to raise his peace above all. My God is indulgent and merciful. He provides peace and justice and He is the purpose of every truth.
