At the sixty-ninth Independence Commemoration, his Eminence the Sheikh Akl of the Druze Unitarian Community the Sheikh Naim Hassan issued the following declaration:

On the Independence commemoration, the significances of dignity and national union that we are urgently in need of crowd together in our circumstances today. As we support the President of Republic the General Michel Suleiman for his serious efforts aiming at getting the country out of its current crisis, we also address our salutations to the Lebanese Army and all the Security Forces for their efforts to preserve the nation and its security as well. We certify at this occasion that the values of independence and sovereignty could not but remain the true light in the spirit of all the Lebanese people, by which they are guided and conducted to what brings the goodness, strength and rise to our country facing its enemies. 

He added: “At the sixty-ninth independence commemoration, we address to all the leaderships and directions as well as all the Lebanese political and spiritual, civil and military authorities, suggesting to them the one and only option; the option of national solidarity and the prevention of bad people from reaching our ranks, the option of union within diversity and the prevention of those planning for dissension from being integrated among us and the option of Lebanon’s strength and immunity as well as the prohibition of attacks and violations against its sovereignty. This is how the Lebanese people elaborate their destiny and their illuminated future with their own hands and they maintain all together our independence for which has fallen a large number of martyrs and wounded since 1943 and many have offered the most valued sacrifices. It is only by union, dialogue and solidarity that we deserve to belong to our country Lebanon”.
