His Eminence Sheikh Akl of the Druze Unitarian Community the Sheikh Naim Hassan received at the community house in Verdun-Beirut a delegation from the Democratic Gathering and the Progressive Socialist Party including each of MPs Ghazi El Aridi, Wael Bou Faour, Fouad Saad, Elie Aoun, and members of the Progressive Leadership Rima Saliba, Walid Sfeir, Mohammad Basbous, Nachaat El Hasniye, Rami El Rayes, Hady Abul Hassan in the presence of the Druze confessional judge, the Sheikh Ghandi Makarem where general developments have been discussed.
During the meeting, His Eminence noted the decisions of the Democratic Gathering and its President, MP Waild Jumblatt and the efforts made by him to safeguard the country's safety and preserve its rights' components and segments at different stages and various levels.
His Eminence assured that the proposals that come out from here and there in the election law file, the proposal does not consider the national formula of joint living and does not take into consideration the correct representative right to an existential component in Lebanon represented by the Druze Unitarian Community which has history, present and future in Lebanon resurrection and its arising. It adheres, today more than ever, to its national constants to preserve one living, consolidate reconciliations, and solidify stability on the basis of true and effective participation.
MP Ghazi Aridi declared on behalf of the delegation, after the meeting, saying:
“In the community house of Wisdom and reason, the meeting with His Eminence Sheikh Akl Naim Hassan was in the framework of our tours on the political forces along with spiritual and political references in order to discuss the country’s general developments on the one side and, in particular, the election law subject which is the main topic today and it constitutes the title of the main political debate in the country. I hope, after a long series of tours, to be at the end of them, on the way to say, and their conclusion will be reasonable because we need to generalize prudence, quiet thinking and the invocation of wisdom and reason to discuss all national issues, especially in that particular issue, we are on the threshold of entitlements. In our opinion, our movement had to be on time, from the beginning. This movement was originally intended to hold parliamentary elections on time, pursuant to a new law. There is no problem in that. But, to hold the elections means that the elections won’t be on time even if it will take time for a technical delay and we assure that the delay is technical, which means that agreeing on a new election law in which we preserve the diversity, partnership and pluralism and pave the way to fully implement Taef Agreement, which means to access the Parliament outside the sectarian restriction in addition to the Senate. It will take into consideration the concerns of sects, as they are in the constitution. As we always repeat, if the intentions are clear and sound, and if there is actually a desire to reach the elections, we are able to agree on a law. But outside this framework, our direction will be toward a major political crisis under the title of vacancy or non-vacancy. All this reflects, negatively, on the political, economical, social and financial reality in the country and we do not need that, after having passed through the two years and a half experience of Presidency vacancy. We hope to intensify the communication, and meetings, consultations and discussions among all political forces, and this is our approach, in order to reach such understanding”.
In response to the question about a formula of new law, introduced by Minister Bassil recently?
Al Aridi said:
“The concerned team of the party in the study of proposals and electoral projects is working on the study of these ideas which were submitted to express our final opinion toward them. But today, it is obvious, from what we have seen from the attitudes that things are going in an opposite direction completely because this has not been accepted by the main political forces in the country. In all cases the debate should remain open. "
