His Eminence, Sheikh Aql of the Druze monotheistic faith (Tawhid), Sheikh Naeem Hasan, received in the Community House - Beirut today, a delegation from the "Strong Republic" bloc, representing the head of the "Lebanese Forces" party, Dr. Samir Geagea, headed by former Deputy Prime Minister Ghassan Hasbani, and included MPs Anis Nassar, Eddie Abi Al-Lama’, Wehbe Qatisha, Imad Wakim, Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Lebanese Forces Party, former Minister Richard Qawumijian, Head of the Office of Communication with Spiritual References Antoine Mourad, Head of the Protocol Office Paul Al-Shaer, and a member of the Communication Office, Dr. Jean-Claude Saab. The meeting was attended by the head of the Communication and Public Relations Committee in the Sectarian Council, Major General Shawqy Al-Masry, the judge of the Druze sect, Sheikh Gandhi Makarem, and the head of the cultural committee in the Sectarian Council Sheikh Dr. Sami Abi Al-Muna. The delegation informed His Eminence of Dr. Geagea’s greetings and appreciation for his unifying national position. The general situation and the position of the bloc and the Lebanese Forces Party regarding the issues raised were reviewed.
The meeting was an occasion in which Sheikh Al-Aql stressed the importance of saving the country from the deep impasse it has reached due to blockage of political horizons, the difficult living and economic situations, the concern over social security, the pressure caused by the pandemic and other factors. These factors require immediate national consensus to prevent the country from falling into the abyss. His Eminence expressed his disappointment from officials for failing to form the awaited government at a time when the Lebanese are suffering and their means of life and livelihood have narrowed, stressing at the same time the firmness of coexistence and adherence to all its components in the mount Lebanon, as in all of Lebanon, regardless of the circumstances and at various stages, to fortify the idea of democratic diversification.
After the meeting, Hasbani said: "The visit was aimed at building on the patriotic and unifying positions of His Eminence Sheikh Naeem Hasan, calling for rapid action to save the country within what the constitution allows and what is guaranteed by the law and within the national duty which it dictates to every citizen," stressing that "the spirit of brotherhood, solidarity, reconciliation and national cooperation have prevailed, as well as the mountain spirit that embodies this brotherhood and solidarity at all national levels. "
He added, "We informed His Eminence about the reasons we believe for holding parliamentary elections as soon as possible, because the Lebanese people can no longer tolerate political conflicts between the parties of power that result in repeated disruptions and economic, social and monetary collapse." He continued, "Since time is running out, and the formation of a government alone is no longer sufficient to bring the country out of collapse, whatever its characteristics, especially if it was formed based on what is presented nowadays with the implicit, partial or even total representation of the current ruling forces. Since the people are the source of all powers, it became necessary for the people to say their word. After they said it in the street, it is time to say it in the voting boxes. The longer this goal is delayed, the more time we need to recover and the more tragic the citizens’ situation would become, like hunger, disease, and the loss of the necessities of a decent life. After what has happened, we can not expect the existing ruling forces to succeed in implementing the required reforms, neither would they be able to correct corruption, nor to improve performance and hold fair elections on time and on their own."
Hasbani concluded that "re-establishing the authority from its source, the people, has become a necessity for salvation." Addressing those who said that "no change will happen in the elections," by saying: "Stop frustrating the people, try them and you will see."
