His Eminence Sheikh Al Aql met with a representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and a delegation of judges of the Druze doctrine

His Eminence, Sheikh Aql of the Druze monotheistic faith (Tawhid), Sheikh Naeem Hasan received the representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Lebanon, Yan Kubish, at Dar Al-Taifa in Beirut. The meeting involved discussion of current developments and general affairs.
His Eminence stressed the importance of the role played by the United Nations in Lebanon through its deployed forces operating in southern Lebanon, and through its various institutions in the country, which contribute to the development and support in many domains, the most important of which is the issue of refugees and migrants, which brings great burdens on the Lebanese government, of which the international community is asked to endure as well. Sheikh Hasan called on the United Nations to play a clear and more effective role in the various crises and conflicts in our region.
His Eminence also expressed his hope that the United Nations will remain supportive of UNRWA due to the significant role it played since its establishment. He expressed his wish that major powers would contribute to the empowerment of the United Nations to exercise its role in achieving justice, from the viewpoint of faith in the principle of justice which brings peace to the world.
He also pointed out that maintaining Lebanon's security requires that Israel ceases its provocative interventions in Lebanon, as well as the continued aggression against Palestinian land and people.
For his part, the representative of the Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for the position of his Eminence who always calls for dialogue and agreement, as well as the promotion and maintenance of civil peace. He then touched on several subjects, expressing the corresponding position of the United Nations, the most important of which is the maintenance of stability in the south of Lebanon, which the United Nations is providing for legitimacy. He also talked about the burdens under which Lebanon resides, which impacts its advancement, including the economic situation and scenes that show public discontent, the rising tone of political discourse, and the pressures resulting from the large number of Syrian refugees. He also talked about the need to exert great efforts to pave the way for the implementation of the projects in “Cedre”.
He also thanked his Excellency for his role in holding the spiritual summit during the difficult circumstances that prevailed at the time, which emphasized the vital viewpoints for the unity of the Lebanese, the promotion of coexistence, as well as the preservation of the level of sophisticated discourse amongst everyone.
In another topic, his Eminence held a meeting with the judges of the Druze sect in the presence of the President and members of the Supreme Druze Court of Appeal, as well as the Attorney General of the Court of Appeal - on the occasion of the beginning of the judicial year, during which the topic of activating the work of sectarian courts was discussed.
