His Eminence, Sheikh Aql of the Mouwahidoune Druze Sect, Sheikh Naim HASSAN, met at the Druze Community House in Verdun, Beirut’s first district candidate for the Greek Orthodox seat, Miss Naila TWAINY, in the presence of the Druze confessional judge, Sheikh Ghandi MAKAREM.
Throughout her visit, TUEINI announced, “As much as I believe that His Eminence is a national authority, I believe that he is a reference that concerns me personally; thus, the same as the church is our home, this house is our other home as well. I decided to visit His eminence, after applying for candidacy, to notify him with this candidacy; we have denied the attack that took place yesterday on the Lebanese Army, so did His Eminence who called all the Lebanese to submit to state authority in the protection of the Lebanese Army on all the Lebanese territories. His eminence entrusted me with responsibility throughout the role a women shall play in general – starting from the house, family upbringing, associations, and institutions – toward homeland and the state. As a candidate, and I hope I could achieve my goal, His Eminence also entrusted me with the responsibility of all that is related with the Lebanese University and public schools where education has become a necessity. Besides, in case I become a member in the Parliament, I will seek the establishment of a Senate which I personally believe that it could solve many problems.”
Asked about her viewpoint toward the elections on the night of set date, she replied, “I believe there is an election battle, and there are pressures and the like… yet we will proceed in the battle with enthusiasm until the end, hoping it would be positive. Everyone can choose throughout practicing the  right of voting as a national obligation. We hope that within this week or the week that follows, the list will be announced after settling the Armenian issue in the electoral district.”
About her comment on Bekaa event, she said, “First, we do warmly condole the families of martyrs in the army which always shed blood in protection of our land. The Lebanese army alone, and only alone, shall undertake the responsibility of protecting every centimeter of the Lebanese territory; consequently, it is impossible for the opposition party to protect any piece of land in Lebanon in the presence of the Lebanese army.”
Regarding the accusations against her candidacy, she said, “All is acceptable until now, with time everyone’s actions would be louder than his speech; it is a game of democracy and every citizen is free to be a candidate as long as he is above the age of 25 and his candidacy is legal. Only one month and a half separates us from the battle in Achrafieh; and we are working hard on daily basis since we depend on citizens in the region to share in voting.
As to the assault on the martyr Jobran TUEINI in his tomb, she answered, “It is a criminal attack for whoever uses the blood of Jobran TUEINI and attack him at the time he is above all… He shed his blood for his homeland, for he loved it and sought the way of sovereignty, freedom, and independency along with all those who walked on that road to disagree with them whenever they deviated from that road which he defended throughout his life time until his martyrdom.”
